As part of the 400-level class in Geography and with close supervision from the faculty research mentor, students conduct independent research and create digital presentations to showcase.
Examples of some of the projects include research on advanced remote sensing geographic information system, environmental analysis, climate change, citizenship, gerrymandering, sustainability, cityscapes, and social environmental stratosphere. Students have taken an idea, studied it in depth as part of this course, made it their independent research project, and created their concept in post-graduation.
Students learn skills such as project management, academic research, problem solving, communications, and subject matter knowledge. Students experience how research grows from an idea, as they are asked to come up with their own research project.
The student research showcase happens at least once a semester and is open to the public, especially geography alumni.
